This October, save a room for PORTUGUESE Wines and Wine Tourism 

Portugal has a long history of producing fine wines. It is rapidly emerging as the most popular new wine destination to travel. The excellent quality of its wines is recognized across the world, with numerous awards and distinctions won at international levels. The country boasts a wide variety of outstanding wines, which is one of the best things about travelling here. The wine regions from north to south will host you to experience Portuguese hospitality as it offers excellent opportunities for wine tourism. The only way to really appreciate winemaking traditions and culture is to travel to the regions and taste these excellent wines in a real-world setting.

In order to give you some experience of its exquisite wines, Portugal is all set to welcome you to its pavilion at ProWine – Uncork India, Mumbai. The event will take place at the Jio World Convention Centre on October 17 and 18. The exhibition will include Portugal´s top 12 wineries, some with estates offering wine tourism and gastronomy experiences: Adega Cooperativa e Regional de Monção, Adega Cooperativa da Vermelha, Casa Relvas, CASA SANTOS LIMA – COMPANHIA DAS VINHAS, S.A.  Caves Campelo, FALUA – Wines from Portugal, João Portugal Ramos, Manuel Costa e Filhos, Lda, Quinta das Arcas, Quinta da Raza, Santos & Seixo Wine Export and Viniverde – Promoção e Comércio de Vinhos Verdes. 

At these estates, Guests can experience the excitement and history of winemaking, and even participate in numerous activities and celebrations throughout the 20 more Portuguese wine regions. Portugal offers stunning landscapes of the wine making regions: from the charming,  Minho where the vinho Verde grapes grow on trellises, to the terraces of the Douro River Valley, the oldest demarcated region in the world and home of the famous port wine. 

In the Centro de Portugal region, the wine routes do not run through the countryside, but through towns. Each is brimming with history. Venture further south and the routes near the capital have a close connection to water. Along the River Tejo, the Ribatejo Route travels through fertile fields irrigated when the river rises in the spring. 

Portugal has the oldest appellation system in the world, the Douro Valley. This region, Vinho Verde, Alentejo and the Dão region, in the Northwest produce some of the world’s unique wines. Portugal has two wine producing regions recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage: the Douro Valley Wine Region and the Pico Island Wine Region in the Azores. 

At the Prowine Event, Visit Portugal is hosting a masterclass on the theme ‘’Wine Pairs with Portugal’’. The session will be designed to boost awareness of Portugal wine regions and wines, the diversity of wine tourism experiences across the country.  Guests will also participate in wine-tasting with a very particular and amazing Portuguese wine, guided by a Sommelier from Turismo de Portugal network of Hospitality Schools.

We are making a very specific invitation to Indian tour Operators and media to visit Portugal Pavilion at Pro Wine-Uncork India, meet the wineries and wine estates engage in conversations while tasting wines and get more acquainted with Portugal as a wine tourism destination, understand the potential, the uniqueness and ultimately design Portugal wine tourism packages for their clients. Make Portugal a must-see and sustainable wine tourism destination. Portugal is one of the countries on the list of the world’s great wine producers. Recognized for its wines with great personality and unique characteristics, and at Portugal Pavilion, there is an opportunity to taste and establish synergies with the wineries. 

Identified as a key asset for Portugal in the Tourism Strategy 2027 plan, wine tourism is a segment with the potential to attract visitors to rural areas year-round, helping them to build an affinity with the country. For this action program, Visit Portugal designed a campaign building a bridge between economic sectors and helping to position Portugal as a world leading wine tourism destination. As part of the campaign, 6 films were created, including an overview and five specific themes on ‘’pairing’’ between wine and the country’s main offerings, as In : Wine pairs with adventure, Wine pairs with art, wine pairs with Discovery, wine pairs with music and wine pairs with wellness.
